Abstract
Childhood is the foundation for the formation of personality and the human educational system, and within this scope, "play" is considered one of the most pivotal and effective educational tools for children. Islamic texts (the Holy Quran and Hadiths) contain practical and valuable components regarding play that have received less scientific scrutiny so far. The present study was conducted with the aim of extracting and categorizing these components based on authentic Islamic sources. This research, using a descriptive analytical method, first explains the importance of play in the development of the child's personality, and then, by analyzing the verses, narrations, and biography (Sira) of the Infallibles (PBUH), extracts the governing components of child’s play. The research findings indicate that the components of play in Islamic sources can be classified into three general categories: 1) components related to the "essence of play" (such as the necessity of play for all children and the need for creative play); 2) components related to the "child's companion" (such as the moral health of the playmate and the initiative of adults in playing); and 3) components related to the "execution of play" (such as leaving the child free in play). The results of this study emphasize that achieving the desired educational goals in Islam requires redefining and implementing play patterns based on these revelatory and narrative components.
